Component cleanliness and pressure validation services

Case Componenta – Validation of Component Cleanliness

Fluid Intelligence Oy provides component cleanliness and pressure validation services for Componenta Oyj’s pipe products.

The initial cleanliness of machinery components is critical for the reliability and performance of the machinery. There are several published standards for cleaning and flushing processes of installed and commissioned components, such as ISO 23309 and ASTM D 4174, which are applicable for various purposes. In addition, manufacturers have machine- and component-specific standards to ensure cleanliness of parts.

In general, cleanliness refers to the absence of particles larger than, for example, 100 microns in the components, and the presence of only a few thousand particles smaller than that. There are several methods for determining the level of cleanliness, with the most common one being the traditional particle classification according to ISO 4406:1999 and related measurement techniques.

Validated component cleanliness enables the supply of cleanliness-rated components to meet the demanding needs of customers, providing a clear competitive advantage in the fiercely competitive machinery industry. A high-quality production process, combined with validation based on standards for component cleanliness, ensures the highest quality of delivered components.

The cleanliness and pressure validation service provided by Fluid Intelligence has enabled us to expand our offerings to customers without significant additional resources being tied to a new process that is not part of our core business, but is necessary for the challenging operating conditions of our component end-customers, says Production Engineer Joel Salminen from Componenta.

The cleanliness of components in hydraulic and lubrication systems of machinery is a critical quality factor that has a significant impact on the end-customer's quality experience, usability, and durability of the machinery, adds Mikko Oksanen from Fluid Intelligence.
